Passage to St. Croix

This building in Christiansted, St. Croix, called Government House, was built by the Danish. They ruled St. Croix before the US bought the island (along with St. Thomas and St. John) from them in 1917.

While there this tall ship, probably a Windjammer or Barefoot Cruises ship came in and spent several days on St. Croix. It's a cruise ship, though a small one.

The newly restored Customs House is now part exhibit and part giftshop-information center. Notice the large cannons stuck in the ground at the corners of the building pointing to the sky. Also notice the palm tree fronds bending in the wind. It blew 20 knots or more everyday we were here.

This fort, called Christianavaern, was also built by the Danes, in 1748. It is now part of the US National Park system.

This is part of the shopping district in downtown Christiansted. They are very pleasant environs to walk around (but keep a hand on your purse). Most of the building are old (more than 100 years) and those that are not are not conspicuous.
